Long Street

Revitalisation Project

The strategic revitalisation seeks to reposition Long Street as a premier location of interest and viable entertainment destination for local and international guests. It aims to re-establish Long Street as Africa’s cultural and entertainment capital through several projects.

Tenant Mix

Through a focussed approach to the tenant mix of the zone working with all landlords The Upper Long intervention aims to ensure any new tenant fits the desired profile and does not conflict with surrounding businesses, working to achieve a level of symbiosis between all tenants in the zone while providing relevant amenities.

Greening
94 trees in barrels have been placed on Long Street to date, creating a greener, healthier and more liveable environment.

Parklets

With 1 rolled out to date, the parklets are characterised by greenery, seating, and in some cases bike racks. Parklets are a sidewalk extension meant for recreation. Designed to increase the physical space of businesses and how patrons interact with it. Parklets convert car space to people space, they bring a bit of scenery to the concrete jungle and add character to the surrounding areas.

Strengthened Safety and Security

Improved lighting will assist in decreasing crime and promote a sense of safety and festivity. Signage will be carefully considered to avoid overcrowding and provide clear brand visibility and recognition. Botanical lighting motifs and draping lights will be installed throughout the streetThe Long Street revitalisation will strengthen the relationship with CCID, Law Enforcement and SAPS to prioritise resources with a focus on improving security for all roleplayers.
